A total of ₹12.90 lakh was stolen from the cash chest of an ATM at Choutuppal in the early hours of Wednesday.

The theft came to light later that night when a representative from the third-party agency responsible for maintaining the ATM filed a complaint with the local police.

“The ATM’s CCTV cameras were not functional. The exact time of theft and the number of culprits involved are unclear,” said the police.

Choutuppal police have registered a case and launched a probe. Forensic teams have inspected the site and are collecting evidence, while footage from nearby establishments is being examined to trace any movement around the ATM.

Police suspect that the theft might have been carried out by individuals familiar with the ATM’s maintenance schedule and security vulnerabilities.
