Ten days after the incident, South East Division police tracked down a 29-year-old cab driver who was on the run after molesting a girl walking home along with her friend late in the night on April 3 in Suddaguntepalya.

The accused, identified as Santosh D., worked as a cab driver in Brookefield and lived with his mother and younger brother at Gulbarga Colony in Tilaknagar. The accused molested one of the girls and fled the scene, the police said. The police had filed a suo motu case based on the CCTV camera footage.

According to the police, the accused was drunk, and the incident was caught by a CCTV camera installed outside a house in the area. While the victim did not lodge a complaint, the owner of the house alerted the police after he came across the recordings.

The police analysed footage from over 150 CCTV cameras to identify the accused. The accused fled to Hosur after the CCTV footage was widely shared on social media platforms. At Hosur, the accused stayed in a friend’s house before boarding a bus to Kozhikode in Kerala.

The police tracked down the accused on Sunday at another friend’s house in Kozhikode.
