Aside from memorable performances in Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine, actor Michelle Williams is widely recognized for rocking unique (yet gorgeous) hairstyles — she’s done everything from rocked blonde (and pink) pixie cuts to pink updos. Her hairstylist Chris McMillan calls her latest look a “kinky little bob” and her new style is looking so good it had many of us wondering how she does it.
With a little digging, we found everything from the Dyson hairdryer to a professional-quality mousse that Michelle Williams (and her stylist) uses. You may not have one of her kicky hairstyles in mind, but we’d trust the advice of the man who everyone from Barbara Streisand to Jen Aniston trust with their looks.
Adding Volume
Although Michelle’s hair is relatively fine, it never looks flat. Evidently, there are a few products to credit for that.
1. Volume Spray: Celebrity hairstylist Kristin Heitkotter told E! News she uses Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray on Michelle to give her hair volume. It absorbs oil at the roots, which gives your hair a “just-styled” look for days.
2. Hair Oil: Yet another product staple for to add volume to Michelle Williams’ hair? Moroccanoil Light.
“I applied Moroccanoil Light on the root areas all over the head to separate the strands,” celebrity stylist Peter Gray said about her 2017 Met Gala look. [It helps] the hair look more substantial, and give it a look of effortless volume.”
Styling Staples
There’s always something new going on with Michelle Williams’ updo, thanks to her next-level stylists and their hair products.
1. Hair Dryer: Kristin Heikotter says her favorite styling tool of all time — for all of her clients — is the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. She told E! News it cuts down on drying time and results in shiny, smooth hair.
2. Detangler: Back in 2022, Chris McMillan credited Drunk Elephant’s Wild Marula Tangle Spray for her Cannes red carpet look. He said it was to keep “the hair shiny and not heavy.” It definitely worked.
3. Styling Creme: For a smooth yet strong finish, Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme is the way to go after a blow-out. “That’s my secret weapon,” hair stylist Jimmy Paul said of the styling process for Michelle’s 2013 AnOther Magazine look.
Hold Fast
Anything can go wrong on the red carpet. But fortunately, Michelle’s hair is one component that she can easily control, with a few must-have products.
1. Mousse: For the 2012 Oscars, stylist Kate Young told Into the Gloss that she used Sebastian Professional Mousse Forte to blow William’s hair dry. It keeps a strong hold on any style.
2. Relaxing Oil: To debut Michelle’s 2023 Oscars pixie, Chris McMillan used Kerastase Huile Discipline Oleo-Relax. According to Cosmopolitan, this product smooths curly, frizzy or thick hair. The outcome? A sleek and supple end result.
