A person shot himself after killing three, including his daughter, and leaving one injured at Magalu village near Balehonnur in N.R. Pura taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) night.
Rathnakar Gowda, 40, a native of Kithlikonda village near Balehonnur, shot at his daughter Moulya, 6, mother-in-law Jyothi, 50, sister-in-law Sindhu, 24. Sindhu’s husband, Avinash, 38, suffered an injury on his right knee. The accused used his single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) to kill the three and later committed suicide.
According to Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amate, a family dispute was the motive behind the crime. The wife of Rathnakara, the accused, had been staying separately for the last two years because of differences with him.
The Balehonnur police registered the case based on the statement by Avinash, who suffered injuries.
