The Waqf (Amendment) Bill will be taken up for discussion and passage in the Lok Sabha on April 2, 2025. Opposition parties have been vocal in their criticism of the Bill that seeks to significantly reform the 1995 Waqf Act by enhancing the Centre’s regulatory authority over waqf properties.

The Bill was introduced a Bill in the Lok Sabha on August 8, 2024. The draft legislation, proposed to be renamed the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 2024, is heralded by the government as a comprehensive overhaul aimed at enhancing “the efficiency of the administration and management of the waqf properties.”
