Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh instructed the police personnel of all the sub-divisions that ganja should not enter Anantapur district under any circumstances. The SP initiated raids at the Anantapur railway station here in the early hours on Tuesday.

The urban police and district dog squad took part in the raids. Sniffer dog Shiny was pressed into action to detect the presence of drugs on the platforms. The raids focussed on trains passing through Anantapur, Gooty and Guntakal. The SP directed the police personnel to thoroughly monitor the CCTV footages to identity suspects involved in the transportation of ganja through the public transport system.

The raids were conducted in the Prashanti Express, bound for Bengaluru from Bhubaneswar via Anantapur. The police searched the coaches, suspected passengers and their baggage. The SP instructed the raid party not to cause any inconvenience to the commuters during the drive.

Mr. Jagadeesh said that surprise checks would be conducted regularly in the railway stations, bus stations, and other busy public places to deter offenders from taking advantage of Anantapur as a transit route for ganja trade.
