A lorry driver, who was caught while allegedly driving a cement-laden lorry under the influence of alcohol, jumped off the VM Banjar police station building in Khammam district after he was ‘detained’ there for questioning.
The lorry driver, identified as Jeevan of Suryapet district, reportedly suffered hip fracture in the incident.
Jeevan’s relatives alleged that he was beaten up by the cops at the police station. However, the VM Banjar police denied the allegations.
The incident, which took place on Friday, came to light belatedly on Sunday after he was admitted to a hospital in Khammam.
Police sources said that the lorry driver was detained by a police team following a complaint by the lorry cleaner on ‘Dial 100’ for allegedly driving the cement-laden lorry in an inebriated condition.
Police said he was found heavily drunk in the breathalyser test.
Police added that he suddenly climbed the stairs and jumped off the police station building while the police were verifying about his antecedents with the lorry owner over phone.
