AIADMK’s three-time MLA of Gummiddipoondi, K.S.Vijayakumar, was on Friday (March 7, 2025) expelled from the party.

Announcing this, the organisation’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, said the former legislator had gone against the policy and objectives of the party.

Though he did not cite any specific action of his erstwhile colleague, Mr. Vijayakumar, who held the position of secretary of the Tiruvallur district unit of the Puratchi Thalaivi Peravai and the Ellapuram (north) panchayat union unit of the party, reportedly took part in a signature campaign, being carried out by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in support of three-language formula, near Periyapalayam in his district.

The former MLA, who became inaccessible after the party’s announcement on his expulsion, was first elected from Gummiddipoondi in a by-election in 2005 by a margin of around 27,000 votes and won in the constituency again next year. As the seat was allotted to the AIADMK’s ally DMDK in 2011, he was not accommodated.

However, in 2016, he was given the ticket and became MLA for the third time. In 2021, the constituency was allotted to the party’s then ally PMK, as a result of which he did not contest in the poll.
