Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday reiterated the State government’s commitment to establishing the Film City near Mysuru in the next few years.
The project, despite its announcement earlier, has not taken off as expected by the Kannada film fraternity though the government already transferred the land identified for the project.
While presenting the Budget, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the Film City of international standards in Mysuru will be established at a cost of ₹500 crore in the PPP model.
The film industry is eagerly awaiting progress following the transfer of 150 acres of land at Immavu village, which is part of the Varuna assembly constituency represented by Mr. Siddaramaiah himself.
The process of establishing the long-awaited Film City was fast-tracked last year with the Chief Minister taking a special interest in making it happen with the project expected to boost film tourism in and around Mysuru besides bringing in jobs and livelihood for the locals.
The project is expected to bring in over 25,000 jobs – directly and indirectly – thereby aiding the local economy. Theatres, studios, a multiplex, a theme park, and hotels are planned to be set up in the Film City.
