
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with the recipients of the Kerala Awards at the Kerala Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented the Kerala Awards for the year 2024, instituted by the State government to honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society, at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here on Monday.
Kerala Jyothi, the highest civilian award, was presented to noted writer-academic M.K. Sanoo. His grandson Anith Krishnan accepted the honour on his behalf. Prof. Sanoo was selected for the award considering his contributions to Malayalam literature.
Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairperson S. Somanath and P. Bhuvaneswari, known for her successful organic farming practices, were presented the Kerala Prabha award for their contributions in the fields of science and engineering, and agriculture respectively.
The Kerala Sree award was presented to Kalamandalam Vimala Menon (arts), T.K. Jayakumar (health), Narayana Bhattathiri (calligraphy), Sanju Samson (sports), Shaija Baby (social service) and V.K. Mathews (industry and commerce). Mr. Samson’s wife Charulatha accepted his award on his behalf.
The awards were presented in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. A jury headed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, K. Jayakumar and B. Ekbal selected the award recipients.
