The State government on Monday issued a Government Order, G.O. RT No. 162, for the constitution of a six-member interim Medical Council in the State.
It may be noted that constitution of a medical council has long been the demand of Foreign Medical Graduates. For more than 10 months since TDP-led NDA government came to power, the State did not have a medical council, which usually comprises both nominated and elected members, numbering around 25.
According to the order, the interim Medical Council for the State has been constituted under the State Medical Council under Section 3(2)(c) of A.P. Medical Practitioners Registration Act, 1986, and it will be there till the A.P. Medical Council is constituted.
Health Special Chief Secretary M.T. Krishna Babu said the members would choose a chairman from among them soon.
The members include Gogineni Sujatha, MD (Pulmonology), Professor, Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation, Vijayawada; Kalavakollu Venkata Subba Naidu, Professor of Pulmonology, Ongole; Daggumati Srihari Rao, Radiologist, former Vice-Chairman, APSMC, Tirupati; Swarma Geetha, Gynecologist, Podili, Prakasam district; S. Kesava Rao Babu, president, IMA, Vijayawada, Chunduri Malliswari, a Doctor of Medicine, from Bhimavaram.
