NEW DELHI: The family of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found inside a suitcase in Rohtak, has demanded the death penalty for the accused. Haryana Police have arrested one accused in connection with the case, officials said on Monday.
Her body was discovered inside a suitcase in Rohtak on Saturday, prompting authorities to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.
“We have arrested one accused and further investigations are on,” a Haryana police official said.
Savita, the mother of the deceased, stated that she is certain the accused is someone known to the family—possibly from the party, college, or a relative.
She emphasized that her daughter had a strong moral compass and could not tolerate any wrongdoing.
“I am sure the accused is a known person, either someone from the party or someone from her college or our relative. The person who could come to her house is someone she trusted a lot. If anyone tried to hurt her trust, she would take action against them. No matter how big the person was, she couldn’t tolerate even a single wrong word from anyone,” she said.
“There’s a difference between a friend and a boyfriend. She only focused on her work, and if someone tried to cross boundaries, she wouldn’t even let them enter her gate. Something wrong must have happened,” the mother added.
Himani Narwal’s brother, Jatin Narwal, confirmed that one accused has been arrested but stated that the police have not disclosed any details about the accused. “We still don’t know who the accused is. The police have not given us any information,” he said.
Amid speculation and media reports, Jatin urged people not to believe in rumours. “We will get justice,” he asserted.
Himani uncle, Ravinder Narwal, stated that the family is demanding justice and will not proceed with the cremation until they receive clarity from the authorities. “Whoever the accused is, we want justice. Until the identity is revealed, we will not cremate her,” he said.
He also alleged that the family has had no contact with the police so far.
” We will hold a press conference at 11 am today. we will say everything during the press conference,” said SHO Sampla Bijender Singh.
What happened to Congress Worker Himani Narwal?
The body of Congress worker Himani Narwal was found inside a suitcase near Sampla bus stand in Rohtak on Saturday morning, three days after she went missing.
According to police, Himani had been living alone at her ancestral home in Vijayanagar, Rohtak, for the past five months and had recently attended a wedding.
Earlier in the day, her mother, Savita Devi, arrived at the mortuary ahead of Himani’s postmortem and voiced dissatisfaction with the police investigation. She also raised suspicions about the involvement of Congress members, claiming her daughter’s political success had made her a target.
“Some people were envious of her progress,” she alleged, adding that she would not allow Himani’s last rites to be performed until the culprits were arrested.
