Adequate stocks of paddy seeds for kuruvai season was available in Mayiladuthurai district, Collector H.S. Srikanth has said.
Speaking at the farmers’ grievances meeting, Mr. Srikanth said about 440 tonnes of seeds of different varieties were available in the district. They have been kept ready for distribution among farmers at 50% subsidy for the 2025-26 kuruvai season.
The district had about 2,070 tonnes of urea, 365 tonnes of DAP, 469 tonnes of potash, and 486 tonnes of complex fertilizers. The fertilizers have been stocked in primary agricultural cooperative societies and private dealers.
About 3,420 acres will be covered under the scheme to promote alternative crops, including millets, pulses, and oil seeds that are less water intensive. The district has been allocated ₹41 lakh under the initiative, he said.
According to an official release, Mr. Srikanth appealed to farmers to register their landholdings and obtain the unique identification numbers before March 30 at the special camps held in the villages or the nearest public service centres in the district.
