In a first, the Agriculture Department of Karnataka, which was established a century ago, has brought out “Krishi Varthe”, a monthly newsletter, for providing information regarding developments in the sector to farmers, NGOs, and various stakeholders.
Minister for Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy released a copy of the first newsletter of the April issue on April 16, 2025, on the occasion of 2025-26 Monsoon Workshop at GKVK, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.
The Krishi Varthe newsletter seeks to provide information regarding developments in the farm sector to farmers, NGOs, and various stakeholders.

He said the newsletter would help in building relationships with various players involved in the farm sector and also provides useful information. The newsletter is in Kannada language.
The newsletter contains valuable information on subjects related to farm ponds, mechanisation of farming, various government schemes and details on diagnoses of diseases and pests affecting the farming sector through e-SAP, a mobile app.

An agriculture department official said the newsletter would focus on services provided by the government in the farm sector, success stories of farmers, new schemes, new technological developments, organic farming, achievements of the department employees and other activities.
The agriculture department was established during the reign of erstwhile Mysore Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in 1913 when Sir M. Visvesvaraya was the Dewan of Mysore. Canadian farm expert Leslie Coleman was the first director of the department.
