The AIADMK has betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu by succumbing to pressure and aligning with the BJP, despite earlier denials, alleged Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary R. Mutharasan on Monday.

Speaking to media persons in Nagapattinam, Mr. Mutharasan said AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami had once declared there would be no alliance or relationship with the BJP. “Now, not only has he admitted to the alliance, but he defends it saying they will face whatever comes. In doing so, he has turned his back on the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Mr. Mutharasan said even the AIADMK cadres and supporters were hesitant to accept the alliance and alleged that the party’s decision was driven by fear of Enforcement Directorate (ED) action and not political or ideological conviction.

Commenting on the recent controversy involving Minister K. Ponmudy, Mr. Mutharasan said seeking forgiveness after realising one’s mistake was part of Tamil culture and it must be respected.
