AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday hit out at Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for his remarks on the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
“Mr. Stalin once said at his party’s general council meeting that he was having sleepless nights, thinking about the problems that would arise. Minister K. Ponmudy’s derogatory remarks on women would have disturbed his sleep,” Mr. Palaniswami posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Mr. Stalin was thunderstruck by the announcement of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, and released a statement when his panic was at the peak, Mr. Palaniswami said, adding: “Mr. Stalin would have lost his sleep thinking about my remarks that the AIADMK-BJP alliance would rectify the DMK’s historic mistakes, and also about [Union] Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on a common minimum programme…”
“You [Mr. Stalin] are concerned about Manipur. Do you have the same concern for the people of Tamil Nadu who voted for you, especially women. Women’s safety has been questionable. What locus standi have you got to speak about law and order…,” he asked.
He urged the Chief Minister to first answer “which alliance” went to the Supreme Court to introduce the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test (NEET). “The AIADMK will never compromise on [the interests of] Tamil Nadu and the State’s autonomy. Instead, it will secure the State rights,” he said, adding that the DMK president had mortgaged the State’s rights on Cauvery water to Bengaluru and the Mullaperiyar dam to Thiruvananthapuram.
