Healthcare provider Ankura Hospital on Monday (March 31, 2025) said it has secured ₹165 crore in funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The investment will support its expansion plans and is in line with its long-term vision to strengthen its market presence and enhance healthcare accessibility across India. As part of the expansion strategy, it is focused on establishing new state-of-the-art facilities in key cities across the country, Ankura Hospitals said in a release.

“This financial support from the Asian Development Bank will allow us to enhance our paediatric, maternity and gynaecology services, expand our facilities, and reach more families…,” founder and MD Krishna Prasad Vunnam said.

While the hospital did not elaborate further on the expansion plans, an ADB document from December 2024 showed the project involved expanding Ankura Medical & Research Centre’s (AMPL) network by adding five new hospitals with an aggregate capacity of 500 beds; upgrading existing hospitals by refurbishing them and adding 20 additional beds, medical equipment, and services; funding working capital requirement in existing and new hospitals; installing rooftop solar power systems at some hospitals; and strengthening AMPL’s training capacity and high-quality clinical operations across its hospitals.

The project will contribute to expanding affordable and high-quality maternal and child healthcare (MCH) services in underserved regions such as tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The asset-light model of AMPL allows for reduced capital costs and faster hospital development and operationalisation. The project will strengthen and increase the utilisation of government health insurance programmes, including the PMJAY by facilitating the empanelment of at least three new hospitals which will enable lower-income people to utilise government health insurance programmes.

AMPL now operates 14 hospitals specialised in MCH care across seven cities in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Odisha.
