After Anthony Edwards made headlines both on and off the basketball court this week, the Minnesota Timberwolves star preached patience.
Edwards, 23, consented to give ex Ayesha Howard temporary sole physical and legal custody of their 6-month-old daughter, Aubri Summers, on Monday, April 7. The following night, Edwards and the Timberwolves blew a 24-point fourth quarter lead to the Milwaukee Bucks in a crucial loss as they fight for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference.
After the away game on Tuesday, April 8, Edwards was asked by a reporter in the locker room about the team’s “mental state.”
“We’re good,” Edwards said. “I mean, it’s a part of the game. Of course we didn’t want to lose. But we can’t be in bad spirits because we know we need to win the next game.”
The Timberwolves travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies on Thursday, April 10. Minnesota currently sits one game behind the Grizzlies for the 7th spot in the East. Both teams have three games remaining.

“We can’t really think too much about it,” Edwards continued about the fourth quarter collapse. “It happened. I don’t think we feel too down about it. It’s part of the game, man. [The Bucks] wasn’t making shots the first three quarters. We knew they were going to start making them. We just tried to maintain.”
Edwards explained that the Bucks switching to a zone defense “messed us up.”
“Big shoutout to Milwaukee,” Edwards added.
Off the court, Edwards’ decision to give Howard custody of their daughter brought a temporary end to a months-long paternity and custody battle between the pair.
In September 2024, weeks before the birth of their daughter, Edwards filed a petition over paternity.
According to In Touch, who first reported the news, Edwards’ lawyers asked for genetic testing to be conducted. “Edwards is entitled to an order requiring the parties to undergo genetic testing. If genetic testing shows that Edwards is the father, Edwards requests an order establishing the minor child’s paternity,” his petition read.
The petition continued, “Edwards knows of no other person or entity, not a party to this case, with physical custody of the minor child or claims to have custody or visitation rights concerning the minor child. Further, Edwards has never participated as a party or witness or in any other capacity in any other litigation concerning the custody of or visitation with the minor child in this or any other state.”
Edwards eventually underwent a DNA test in December 2024, which confirmed he was Aubri’s father.
In court filings, Howard said she has been Aubri’s sole caregiver since her birth. Edwards is now asking for a Georgia court hearing to “establish [his] child support obligations.”
