Bachelor Nation’s Olivia Caridi is feeling empowered as she plans for her future.
“Well, we successfully retrieved 25 little Livi eggies, and oh my goodness … ALL 25 were mature and will be put on ice!!!!!” Caridi wrote via Instagram on Friday, April 11. “What an empowering journey that has relieved so much anxiety and stress for me when it comes to the future. #eggfreezing #eggfreezingjourney #freezingmyeggs.”
Alongside the message, Caridi shared an image featuring the reality TV star in a hospital gown waving at the camera from a bed. The next day, Caridi took to TikTok to share more about her egg retrieval journey.
“When I was in the post op room, they were able to tell me right away how many eggs they retrieved. Now that doesn’t mean how many eggs were mature. What I was told at least [is] to expect that like only 60 to 70 percent of the eggs that you retrieve end up being mature enough to be frozen. And I was told I got 25 eggs,” Caridi explained. “I was like, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then maybe, I don’t know, 15 or 16 of them will be mature enough to go on ice. Maybe that would mean I would do another retrieval one day.”
Caridi, who noted that she had “a lot” of people asking her what a mature egg meant, explained that they are “eggs that could be ready for fertilization.”
“If they’re immature, they’re smaller and cannot be fertilized by sperm,” she added. “And this is dependent upon age, timing of the trigger shot, and then underlying fertility conditions. I was just hoping for the best. A few hours later, I got a call from them. They said, ‘You retrieved 25 eggs, and all 25 eggs were mature.’”
“I mean, I already felt so lucky. This whole process was so empowering. The weight that has lifted off of me, and pressure to meet someone, or pressure to just like have this whole future family planning, like on lock, but also to go through all of this financially, 54 shots and like the discomfort associated with some of it — to get 25 mature eggs,” she continued, making a mind blown gesture.
Caridi — who vied for the affections of former Bachelor Ben Higgins on season 20 — shared that she “highly” recommends freezing eggs to anyone who is considering the procedure or starting a family in the future.
“Obviously, it is such a privilege. There are options out there for people,” she said. “What a day, I’m like living on a cloud right now. As my mother said, ‘Now I just need some swimmers.’ Where the damn swimmers at?”
