The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) budget will be presented on March 28. In the absence of an elected council, the outlay will be read by BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance) Harish Kumar.
“The budget will be presented on Friday at Town Hall,” a senior BBMP official said.
According to sources in the BBMP, the size of the budget is expected to touch up to ₹20,000 crore with increased allocation to the civic body in the recently presented State Budget. In the State outlay, a ₹7,000 crore fund was allocated towards the civic body, up from ₹3,000 crore in the previous Budget.
The previous BBMP budget size was ₹12,371 crore. However, upon approval by the State government, it was revised to ₹13,116 crore. The upcoming budget could see a significant increase of 50% to 52%, a source said. The sources further said the budget was prepared after consulting various stakeholders including local MLAs.
On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar held a meeting with Bengaluru city MLAs to deliberate on the budget.
