Hulimavu police have arrested Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, 36, who allegedly killed his wife Gauri Anil Sambekar (32), stuffed her body inside a suitcase, abandoned it at their rented accommodation and fled the scene, from his native Pune, Maharashtra.

The accused had reportedly called his in-laws and claimed that their daughter had ended her life. They alerted the police who rushed to the spot to find the body stuffed in a suitcase with a stab wound. Police said that Rakesh, a project manager with a multinational company, was on the run. He was later arrested from Pune late night on Thursday (March 27).

Further investigation was on in the case, police said.

The couple, originally from Maharashtra, moved into the third floor of the rented house this February for work, said the police. Rakesh was employed in a private firm and worked from home. At the time of the incident, Rakesh wasn’t at the house.
