Former minister and Suryapet MLA G. Jagadish Reddy and former MLA of Tungaturthy G. Kishore Kumar, along with other Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders of the two constituencies, visited the withering paddy fields in Nuthankal mandal on Saturday, blaming the government failure to give Kaleshwaram project water to the area.

They visited the withering paddy fields of farmers S. Veera Reddy, S. Malla Reddy, Sathi Reddy, B. Krishna Reddy, S. Rajeshwari, B. Jyothi, I. Linga Reddy and Naveen Reddy. The BRS leaders alleged that the government was denying Kaleshwaram water, which was given till the 2022-23 Rabi season, to the area as part the Congress’ vengeance politics, particularly against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Terming it a ‘drought’ brought by the Congress rule, they alleged that the government had no intention to give water to save the withering crop. The previous BRS Government had given Kaleshwaram water through the SRSP project canal system to the area for two crop seasons every year since 2019. But, lack of concern for farmers among the ruling party leaders had brought back pre-2014 conditions to the area.

They accused the government of not operating the Kaleshwaram lifts to make easy money from sand mining in the river and even the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh leaders’ statements that they would take Godavari water too was unable to bring any movement among the ruling Congress leaders of Telangana.
