The Centre has provided more than sufficient stocks of fertilizer for the farmers of Telangana this agriculture season, including 12.2 lakh metric tones of urea, 1.72 lakh metric tonnes of DAP or Di-Ammonium Phosphate, 0.95 lakh metric tonnes of MOP or Potash and 8.57 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS or nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur from October 1, 2024, to March 24, 2025.

Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy informed, in a press release on Tuesday, that fertilizers to the tune of 10.34 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 1.46 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 0.64 lakh metric tonnes of MOP, and 6.38 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS, have been sold so far.

Fertilizer stock available in Telangana as on date is 1.68 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 0.26 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 0.31 lakh metric tonnes of MOP and 2.19 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS. The total requirement for the current Rabi season (24-25) for TG has been 9.80 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 0.70 lakh metric tonnes of MOP and 7 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS, he said.

These figures clearly show that the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured every State is supplied with sufficient fertilizers based on the data provided by the respective governments and has been continuously monitoring their availability through an online-based monitoring system — Fertilizer Monitoring System to prevent any malpractices, claimed Mr. Kishan Reddy.

Weekly video conferences

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers & Welfare, along with the Ministry of Fertilizers, also conducts weekly video conferences with agricultural officials from each State to take immediate action and ensure the timely supply of the required fertilizers. “Once fertilizers are supplied to the states, it is the responsibility of the respective governments to distribute them at the district and mandal levels based on the needs of farmers,” he said.

Mr. Kishan Reddy, also BJP Telangana party chief, has asserted that unlike the past when farmers had to wait in queues, fertilizers have been made available to farmers across the country at very low prices, irrespective of international market rates since 2014 by spending over ₹12 lakh crore on subsidy.

Other measures include supply of neem-coated urea, revival of many closed fertilizer plants like the ₹6,338 crore revival of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd, establishment of new plants, enhancement of production capacity at existing plants with modern machinery, and the prevention of fertilizer black-marketing through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, the release added.
