The sudden rains and hailstorms in the early hours of Sunday damaged horticulture crops in 1,670 hectares in the districts of Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, and Prakasam districts.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials to extend all possible support to the affected farmers.
Mr. Naidu reviewed the situation with Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu and Agriculture Department officials. He enquired about the health condition of two banana farmers of Nirjampalli village of Yellanuru mandal in Anantapur district, who attempted suicide allegedly due to crop loss.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the two farmers were out of danger, and they had been shifted to Anantapur for better treatment.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that hailstorms caused damage to crops in 40 villages of 10 mandals in Kadapa, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and Prakasam districts. Horticulture crops in 1,670 hectares belonging to 1,364 farmers had been affected, the officials said. Mr. Naidu directed the officials to extend support to the farmers.
Jagan tour today
Meanwhile, YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would tour Lingala mandal in Kadapa district on Monday to visit the damaged banana plantations. He would interact with the affected farmers.
