Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a comprehensive survey to identify wards across 28 Assembly constituencies for the implementation of the Climate Action and Resilience Plan. The civic body has allocated ₹28 crore for this initiative.

As part of the plan, the BBMP will select one ward from each constituency and tailor interventions based on the specific needs of those wards. The survey to identify suitable wards is already underway and is expected to be completed within two and a half months.

Speaking to The Hindu, BBMP Special Commissioner for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Preethi Gehlot, said, “We have now commenced the process of identifying the wards based on stipulated criteria. After the selection, programmes will be implemented according to the individual requirements of each ward.”

Explaining the selection process, Gehlot said that ground-level staff conducting the survey will assess various parameters, including the presence of slums, the condition of drainage systems, solid waste management practices, and other civic indicators.

A senior BBMP official added that the plan will prioritize wards requiring better infrastructure, improvements in drainage systems, strengthening of solid waste management, and development of lakes and parks. Wards already equipped with adequate civic infrastructure will be excluded from the programme.

In the selected wards, the BBMP will implement targeted improvements under the Climate Action and Resilience Plan to enhance environmental sustainability and resilience at the local level.
