Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has confirmed that the proposal to name a metro station in Bengaluru after Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, will be taken up for discussion in the State Cabinet.

This announcement came during an event organised by the Kodava Samaja Bengaluru on Sunday.

The Kodava community has been actively pushing for the honour since July 2024. They formally requested the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) to name one of the metro stations after Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa.

The Kodava Samaja had met with M. Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of BMRCL, to submit this appeal, suggesting a station near Kamaraj Road as a fitting tribute owing to its proximity to Army land and the Cariappa Memorial Park.

At the same event, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also expressed his support for the initiative. He promised that he would discuss the matter with Mr. Siddaramaiah, saying, “The Chief Minister and I will discuss and decide on naming a metro station after Field Marshal Cariappa. It would be our privilege to do so. We have an open mind about this.”
