Police use water cannon to disperse Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha members amid a protest outside the secretariat demanding the resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the corruption case allegations against his daughter, in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have demanded Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s resignation in the wake of the Serious Fraud Investigation Unit (SFIO) indicting his daughter, T. Veena, on charges of financial duplicity in the so-called pay-off scandal in Cochin Mineral Rutile Limited (CMRL).
Congress organised marches across the State to spotlight the controversy. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers protested before the Secretariat to press their demand.
Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan stated that Mr. Vijayan has lost the moral and ethical right to remain in high office. BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar indicated that the SFIO’s findings against Ms. Veena are serious and serve as a testimony to the entrenched nepotism and corruption in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran mentioned that the Communist Party of India (Marxist)‘s ongoing 24th party congress in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, should oust Mr. Vijayan.
