Concerted efforts are being made to make NTR district tuberculosis-free. Steps are being taken to identify people with the symptoms and raise awareness among the public about it, said District TB Prevention Officer J. Usha Rani.
Inaugurating an awareness rally from the Old Government General Hospital as part of the observance of World Tuberculosis Day on Monday, Dr. Usha Rani said the district officials are ensuring that the patients receive proper treatment and nutritious food.
She said tests have been conducted on 70,947 people in the district. Last year, 6,404 people received treatment, while 1,324 patients are currently receiving treatment.
She added that through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana scheme, patients receive nutritious food and financial aid of ₹500 every month. The government has increased the aid amount from ₹500 to ₹1,000 from this month, she said, adding that they are also conducting tests for the kin of the patients as a precautionary measure. Dr. Usha Rani said 48 Nikshay Mitras have been formed in the district, and nutritional kits are distributed to 2,411 patients monthly.
District Medical and Health Officer M. Suhasini said special attention is being paid to those suffering from chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes as well.
