The Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department on Thursday seized a consignment of 1.8 lakh banned alprazolam tablets in Hyderabad. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, which is valued at approximately ₹6.48 lakh.

According to S.Y. Qureshi, Additional Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, the tablets were illegally transported from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and were being sold at higher prices in Hyderabad without proper medical authorisation or prescription. The banned tablets are priced at ₹4 each but were being sold for ₹10 to ₹20 on the black market.

The accused, identified as P. Laxman and K. Munisekhar, both residents of Hyderabad, were arrested during a raid in Auto Nagar in Hayathnagar following a tip-off about a courier shipment from Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation to identify the supplier and network is underway.
