The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran came down on the DMK government for, what he called, not having carried out any measure to protect the livelihood of farmers and increase the income of agriculturists.
Even though crores of rupees were allotted for the missions to promote millets and oilseeds; safeguard soil health and encourage integrated agricultural development, there were no reports of the farmers having been benefitted out of such programmes.
The former interim general secretary of the AIADMK, V.K. Sasikala, complained that the DMK government had not paid the State’s share of premium with regard to crop insurance schemes. No new scheme had been framed to increase the income of those who were solely dependent on agriculture. The procurement of paddy in the Cauvery delta region had not been made properly, Ms Sasikala said.
