Fine rice distribution to the ration card holders will begin on Ugadi, Saturday March 30 and it would be formally launched by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at Huzurnagar, Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced.

The Minister, who held a review meeting with the officials and also the arrangements to be made for Chief Minister’s visit on Sunday, said the distribution would cover 84% of Telangana population where every person in the eligible families would get 6 kg of rice every month.

He explained that the Congress government has replaced the previous supply of coarse rice (non-fine variety) because it was not being consumed by the beneficiaries and was being misused. The rice given at ₹1 per kg was being recycled and diverted to beer companies and poultry farms.

“This fine rice distribution is a dignified, reformative step to protect public resources and ensure real food security for the poor,” he said, calling it a reflection of Sonia Gandhi’s vision for a hunger-free India.

On irrigation, Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly criticized the previous BRS government for allowing Andhra Pradesh to overdraw Krishna river water, 512 TMCft out of 811 TMCft by expanding the Pothireddypadu head regulator and other projects. He said BRS’s silence and negligence led to the present crisis in Telangana’s reservoirs.

Earlier in the day, the Minister visited the historic Janapahad Dargah in Palakeedu mandal along with Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, former minister K. Jana Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, MP Raghuveer Reddy, MLAs Rajgopal Reddy, Jayadeer Reddy, Balu Naik, Mandula Samuel, B. Laxma Reddy, Vemula Veeresham, Anil Reddy, Padmavathi Reddy, and MLC Shankar Naik. The leaders offered prayers at the dargah.
