Four booked for illegal mining of earth in Virudhunagar; three tractors, one Poclain seized

Virudhunagar district police have booked four persons in connection with illegal mining of earth from a vacant land near Virudhunagar Collectorate on Saturday (March 1, 2025.)

Based on a complaint lodged by Virudhunagar Tahsildar Rajakumar, the Soolakkarai police have booked a case for theft and under the provisions Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.

The accused have been identified as M. Cumbathu Raja (24) of Periya Maruluthu, V. Karuppasamy (35), K. Sundaramoorthi (44) and an unidentified person.

When the Revenue Inspector of Ondipulinaickenoor and Kooraikundu village administrative officer, were on routine patrol, they found a few men were involved in mining of earth using machineries on Saturday evening (March 1, 2025.)

Upon seeing the Revenue officials, the miners fled the spot abandoning three tractors and a poclain machinery. The officials seized the vehicles. The police are on the lookout for the accused.
