Four children studying in a Panchayat Union Middle School, Segal village in Thiruthuraipoondi block, suffered injuries after their classroom ceiling plaster peeled off and fell on them.
According to official sources, the accident happened around 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday when the Class IV and V students were attending their classes at a newly constructed building. Four students — Desigan, Kanishkar, Kaviarasan, and Pugazh, all in the fifth standard — suffered injuries and were rushed to the Government Hospital at Thiruthuraipoondi.
Desigan was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Tiruvarur since he had suffered grievous injuries. Other students who were admitted at the Thriuthuraipoondi hospital were later discharged after treatment for their injuries, sources said.
