New Delhi:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli threw his cap on the ground in anger after a collision between wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma and Yash Dayal cost RCB an opportunity to dismiss Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav during their IPL 2025 match. Dayal bowled a slower delivery in his second ball of the 12th over during MI’s innings, resulting in an edge off Suryakumar which went high in the air. Miscommunication between Jitesh and Dayal however, resulted in the opportunity getting wasted, drawing a strong reaction from Kohli, who was left frustrated.
Suryakumar was batting on 27 when the catch got spilled. Interestingly, Dayal managed to make amends off the final delivery of the same over after delivering another slow ball. Phil Salt made no mistake at mid-off, resulting in Suryakumar’s dismissal for 28.
While Kohli has always been quite intense on the field, his reactions in recent years have been quite controlled in comparison. Netizens have compared his sudden and fierce outburst to Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid similarly throwing his cap in anger following his team’s loss against MI back in IPL 2014. Dravid failed to stay in control of his emotions as RR were knocked out of contention for the playoffs after failing to defend a target of 190 runs in 14.4 overs.
RCB went on to beat MI by 12 runs in a close encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, jumping to the third spot on the points table. Kohli made his presence felt with the bat, smashing 67 runs off 42 balls in a knock comprising eight fours and two sixes. The Bangalore-based franchise have recorded three wins in four matches so far. MI have won just one out of five games.
