Hassan district administration has appealed to the people of Hassan not to drink water from five tanks located in the city, either for humans or cattle.
The administration made this appeal after testing the quality of water from 26 tanks located around the city.
The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board collected samples from 26 tanks around the city and tested them. As per the findings, Kokkangatta and Soudarahalli tanks fall under the D-category, which means the water is unfit for drinking.
Makankere, Kanchanahalli Koplu kere, and Avalikere have been listed under the E-category. The water under this category is not fit for drinking, fishing, and daily use. It can be used only for cooling purposes in industries and agricultural purposes.
Deputy Commissioner of Hassan C. Sathyabhama, in a press release, appealed to the public and industrialists not to pollute the tanks.
She warned that releasing effluents and dumping municipal waste into the tanks would attract legal action.
