Tipped-off by the owner of a hotel in Thanisandra that one of his employees was in possession of an explosive substance, a team from Sampigehalli Police rushed to the hotel on Thursday morning.

The team recovered a red paste-like material wrapped in plastic from one of the hotel employees Abdul Rehaman, 23.

Since he did not have any license to possess the explosive material, he was booked under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and arrested.

Police sources said that the explosive material is sulphur powder, often used to make crackers. Investigations are on to ascertain why Abdul was in possession of the substance and where he got it from.
