As many as seven vehicles were damaged in a collision at night, near Kanavi Kuruvinakoppa village on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway in Belagavi district of Karnataka, on March 25. There was no casualty. One person was injured.
Two trucks, a container vehicle, three KSRTC buses, and a motorcycle were involved in the accident. The biker ended up under a bus, but did not suffer any injury.
The series of collisions began when the driver of the container lost control and the truck overturned at a bend. The driver of the truck behind stopped abruptly, which led to the truck behind ramming into it. Two buses following closely also collided with them.
The driver of another KSRTC bus swerved left to avoid the pile-up, but hit a motorcycle. The bike-rider fell, but survived, as he was wearing a helmet, police said.
Police blamed the accident on the practice of drivers taking a sharp turn at the steep gradient on Badekolla hill.
The accident led to a kilometre-long traffic jam for over an hour.
Police from Hirebagewadi police station rushed to the spot. They used cranes to shift the damaged trucks and the container.
A case has been registered.
