NEW DELHI: Former cricketer Yograj Singh, known for his outspoken nature, has once again stirred the cricketing world with his bold remarks.
Speaking on Taruwar Kohli’s “Find a Way” podcast, Yograj passionately defended India’s senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, amid ongoing scrutiny over their form.
“If you make me the coach of the Indian team, I will use these same players to transform it into a side that will be unbeatable for ages,” he said.
“People are always ready to throw them out — drop Rohit Sharma or drop Kohli — but why? They are going through a rough patch. I would treat them like my kids and tell them, ‘I am with you.’ I’ll tell them, let’s play Ranji Trophy, or I will make Rohit run 20km. Nobody does that. These players are diamonds. You don’t throw them out. I will be like their father.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ star batter Rohit Sharma was spotted swapping his cricket bat for the steering wheel of a boat in Jamnagar.
In a viral video circulating online, the former MI skipper was seen confidently navigating the waters, joined by young batter Tilak Varma and a couple of support staff members.
This comes after Mumbai Indians’ disappointing start to their IPL 2025 campaign, losing their opener to Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.
Rohit’s struggles continued as he was dismissed for a duck — once again falling victim to a left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed this time.
With their next game against Gujarat Titans a few days away, the MI squad took a break for team-bonding activities before resuming intense training.
While MI await the return of regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who missed the first game due to a slow-over rate suspension, another major concern remains Jasprit Bumrah’s availability.
MI’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has confirmed that Bumrah is making steady progress at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, but no official return date has been announced.
