Belur Gopala Krishna, Congress party MLA from Sagara in Shivamogga district, has condemned the alleged incidents of forcing students to remove the ‘sacred thread’ while appearing for the CET and urged the State government to take action against the officers responsible.

Speaking to presspersons in Sagar on Tuesday, Mr. Krishna said that being part of the ruling party, he would stage a protest if the government did not take act against those responsible for the incident. “The incident has hurt the sentiments of Brahmin people. They have been staging protests. ‘Janivara’ has religious significance. Forcing the students to remove the ‘sacred thread’ has hurt sentiments,” he said.

Further, the MLA said the State government had not given instructions to officers to remove the thread. “The government should take strict action against them. Otherwise, I will have to protest against the government, despite being part of the ruling party,” he added.

A student in Sagar had complained to the local police that he was forced to remove the ‘sacred thread’ before entering the examination hall on April 16.
