The Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore on Tuesday got a silver covered wooden elephant vahanam with a howdah on top to be used in processions. A total of 130 kilos of silver was used in its making and it cost the donor ₹1.56 crore. 

Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P. K. Sekarbabu, who presented the elephant vahanam to the temple, said that steps would be taken to get a live elephant for the Tiruttani Murugan. There have been changed to the Wildlife Act, which might help temples get elephants, he explained. Meanwhile, several memorial mandapams were being constructed for temple elephants in the State, he added.
