M. Gurumurthy, convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS), said that his organisation will not tolerate the misuse of the title of the committee in any manner. A Bhadravati court upheld the committee constituted under his leadership as genuine.
In a press conference in Shivamogga on March 14, Mr. Gurumurthy said that the Additional Senior Civil Judge of Bhadravati, on February 10, 2025, dismissed an appeal filed by Srinivas of Hennur in Bengaluru and Sathya of Bhadravati, who challenged the order of the trial court. The trial court, in its judgment in March 2021, ordered that the committee formed under his leadership was genuine.
“There have been many organisations in Karnataka with a suffix added to Dalit Sangharsh Samiti. Now, the court order is clear that our organisation is genuine. Nobody else can misuse its title. If anybody misuses the name, we will file complaints across Karnataka,” he said.
S.K. Seetharamu, advocate, who represented the Samithi and its office-bearers, stated that Prof. B. Krishnappa registered the Dalitha Sangharsha Samithi (Dalit Sangharsh Samiti) on January 25, 1975. Gurumurthy and others were appointed office-bearers in 2004, and they had been submitting audit reports to the registrar of cooperative societies.
In 2009, Sathya of Bhadravathi and Srinivas of Hennur in Bengaluru challenged the list of office-bearers before the registrar.
As the registrar of cooperative societies felt that the matter could be resolved in court, Gurumurthy moved the court in 2012.
“The court order in 2021 was in favour of Gurumurthy. The opposite party filed an appeal. Now, the court has confirmed the judgment of the lower court,” he added.
Office-bearers of the Samithi were present at the press conference.
