Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and integration of renewable energy into the State’s power system are among the themes prescribed for an ‘Innovate for KSEB Idea Pitching Competition’ launched by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for its employees.
Anchoring the competition on the concept that ideas drive the future, the KSEB management is hoping to tap into the “collective ingenuity” of the KSEB workforce for shaping the power utility’s strategies for the future.
KSEB employees, who number over 30,000, have been given time till April 21 to come up with their ideas, either individually or as teams. ‘‘Innovation is the cornerstone of progress. Every employee’s insight is vital in overcoming challenges and driving the KSEB towards excellence,” the KSEB management said in a circular issued to the employees recently.
The themes are aligned with the overall strategic goals of the power utility. These include smart grid solutions such as Internet of Things-based monitoring and cybersecurity; solutions for renewable energy integration into the Kerala power system; reducing technical and commercial losses in the network; AI/ML applications for predictive maintenance and load forecasting; and customer-centric digital solutions.
Cash prizes
The top three entries stand to win certificates of excellence and cash prizes in addition to good service entries for the winners.
A few years ago, the KSEB had formed ‘MIDEA,’ short for Manufacturing unit for Innovative Devices, Equipments and Accessories, to develop innovative devices for its internal use.
