Karnataka Lokayukta Police on Wednesday trapped and arrested M. Krishnappa, in-charge Chief Engineer of Shivamogga Smart City project, while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a representative of a private firm.
The Extreme Private Limited, a private firm in Shivamogga, had bagged the tender to maintain advertisements on seven digital display boards in the city in 2019. The Smart City office had to release the pending bills of ₹11.16 lakh to the company.
Mr. Krishnappa allegedly demanded a bribe from Pavan M.S., executive site engineer of the private firm, to clear the dues. Mr. Pavan, who was not willing to pay the bribe, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta Police.
Under the guidance of Manjunath Choudhari, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, the official conducted the trap and arrested Mr. Krishnappa.
