A low pressure area has formed over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood. The system is likely to trigger some isolated spells of heavy showers in southern Kerala.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for three districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta on Tuesday, warning of isolated heavy rain.
According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Monday, the system is likely to move northwestwards over the southwest Bay of Bengal till Tuesday and thereafter likely to move nearly northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours. A trough also runs from the above cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal to south Tamil Nadu across the southwest Bay of Bengal. Under the influence of the system scattered rainfall activity along with thunderstorm and gusty winds is likely at isolated places over Kerala on Tuesday, said the bulletin.
