The Madin Academy is bedecked to host one of the largest prayer gatherings of Ramzan outside Makkah and Madina on Thursday. Tens of thousands of traditional Islamic believers are expected to converge at Swalat Nagar, the sprawling grounds of the Madin Academy, on Thursday night in anticipation of Lailathul Qadr, a night Muslims believe is holier than 1,000 months.

Organisers said here on Thursday that elaborate arrangements were made to accommodate the people coming from different parts of the State. Guests from different Islamic countries are also expected to attend the prayer conference.

Madin Academy chairman Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari said that about one lakh people were expected to attend a mass Iftar at the sunset. “It will be the biggest Iftar congregation in the country,” said programme coordinator Khalid Saqafi.

All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar will inaugurate the conference at 9 p.m. Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama (Kanthapuram faction) president E. Sulaiman Musliar will preside over the function. Syed Bukhari will lead the major prayer sessions. He will also administer a pledge against drugs.
