The Paradarami police on Tuesday arrested a 42-year-old farmer for possessing a single barrel country-made gun.

According to the police, acting on a tip-off, a special police team searched the house of C. Sriramulu at Ramamalai village near Gudiyatham town in Vellore on Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.

After searching for over two hours, the team found the gun from a paddy field behind his house. Gunpowder and other explosives were also found. A case was registered against the farmer, and he was lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore.

Initial inquiry revealed that he had bought the gun many years ago from Kerala to guard his crops from animals, especially wild boar, as the village was near a reserve forest.
