A 30-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for killing a security guard at a private school in Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur a day ago over previous enmity.

Police said the arrested person was identified as Mohammed Salim, a wage labourer from Jolarpet town.

Initial inquiry revealed that victim Mohammed Ifran, 35, was married to Nurjahan, 30, a few years ago. Nurjahan’s sister, Fatima, 28, and her husband, Salim were living in Jolarpet town. The sisters have around 3.5 acres of ancestral property in Vaniyambadi. Both sisters have been claiming the entire property. Salim regularly quarrelled with his sister in-law and her family on the issue.

On Monday, Salim went to the private school in Vaniyambadi where the victim Ifran worked and stabbed him. As Ifran was lying in a pool of blood, Salim fled the spot. The school authorities declared a holiday and asked parents to take back their wards from the campus.

Based on orders of Tirupattur SP Shreya Gupta, a special team from Vaniyambadi Town police rushed to the spot. Fingerprints were taken from the crime spot. The team also analysed CCTV footage and zeroed in on the suspect, who was arrested from his hideout in Bengaluru. A case was registered. Later, Salim was lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur. A probe is underway.
