Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in his weekly press briefing said “During PM’s visit to the U.S. in February 2025, both sides announced plans to negotiate a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).”
The spokesperson said “Commerce and Industries Minister was in the U.S. and met his counterparts. The two governments are in the process of advancing discussions on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement.”

Mr. Jaiswal further said “Our objective through the BTA is to strengthen and deepen India-U.S. two-way trade across the goods and services sector, increase market access, reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, and deepen supply chain integration between the two countries.”
The spokesperson said this in response to U.S. President Donald Trump announcing reciprocal tariff for India from April 2, 2025.
When asked about the security breach during External Affairs Minister Jaishankar visit, Mr. Jaiswal said “We conveyed our deep concern to UK authorities about breach of security during External Affairs Minister’s visit.”
The spokesperson further said “We support stable, peaceful, inclusive Bangladesh where all issues are resolved through democratic means and by holding inclusive polls.”
