The prestigious Indian Farmers Fertilisers Cooperative’s (IFFCO) Kisan Special Economic Zone (or IKSEZ) project gained momentum with the Member of Parliament (Nellore) Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy meeting the IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani and Chief Executive Officer Uday Shankar Awasthi in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The district administration has mobilised 2,777 acres of land in the Kovur Assembly constituency of SPSR Nellore district. Of this, 1,900 acres will go to the SEZ, while the remaining 877 will go to the Domestic Tariff Zone (DTZ), where Mr. Reddy appealed to Mr. Sanghani to bring in industries.
The discussion between the two centred on roping in famed industrial brands to the SEZ, which is projected as a jewel in Nellore district’s crown. Mr. Reddy said IFFCO, known across the world as a reputed cooperative unit, would go the extra mile to make the IKSEZ a roaring success.
The State Government has earmarked ₹300 crore for extending water, power, and security to the area. The zone currently has electric power, a water supply, a compound wall, a sewage treatment plant, internal roads, and plug-and-play facilities. Office space of 34,000 sq.ft. is readily available.
At this SEZ, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Power is already established on 150 acres of land. Similarly, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Limited (HCCB) has also taken a 150-acre site to establish its unit, creating interest in the zone.
Mr. Prabhakar Reddy said thousands of educated, skilled and qualified youths from Nellore district would get jobs in the SEZ project. “The district will get a thrust on the industrial front and the youths will get employment, which will improve the living standards of the local population.”
Mr. Reddy told the media that Mr. Sanghani had assured to look into the issue and make a positive decision.
