Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president and former MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy, displaying the historical photographs of palatial residences owned by the Nehru family before India’s independence, argued that the family was born into privilege and accusing them of corruption is laughable.

Mr. Reddy said the homes symbolised a legacy of sacrifice, and the Nehru family contributed everything to India’s freedom struggle. He said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging that the Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi stole money from their organisation (Congress) and framing them in cases showcased how desperate the BJP was to defame the Congress leaders.

He was speaking at a dharna held at Sangareddy against the Enforcement Directorate including the names of Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Rahul Gandhi in the Young India-National Herald case. Dismissing the ED’s allegations as ridiculous and baseless, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating a “witch hunt” against the Nehru-Gandhi family.

The Congress leader termed the ED case a desperate attempt to divert public attention from Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s escalating demand for a nationwide caste survey – a move seen as a challenge to the BJP’s political narrative. He alleged that Mr. Modi was afraid of Rahul Gandhi’s growing influence, especially on social justice issues like the caste census. Instead of addressing the issues, Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah were using Central agencies to malign opponents. He asserted that India will not forgive Mr. Modi for these ‘silly’ allegations, warning of public backlash against the BJP.
